Important questions you should ask before choosing a pet crematory….

How do I know that I am only getting my pet’s ashes back?
We understand how important this is to pet parents and we ensure your piece of mind with a special tracking system.  A Heartland Pet Cremation representative personally identifies every pet at the time of transport and then assigns a metal Identification Tag/number to that pet.  That tag/number stays with your pet from the time they arrive until the cremation is complete.  You will find that ID Tag attached to the outside of your pet’s cremated remains when they are returned to you. This ensures that you will always get only your pet’s cremated remains.

Are you available to come to our home, night or day, to pick up our pet and is there an additional charge for this?
Our staff answers our phones, and is available to serve you, 24 hrs a day.  There is NO additional charge to come to your home to pick your pet up regardless of the time of day, weekend or holiday.

Can you pick up my pet from any vet or animal hospital?
Yes, we can always pick up your pet from any animal hospital.  It is your decision who handles the remains of your pet and who is to provide the cremation services.   Even though a clinic may offer cremation services through another pet crematory, they cannot tell you who is going to pick up, transport and cremate your pet.

Do you have a standard pick up day or schedule with the vet clinics that use your service?
Heartland Pet Cremation works hard to be an immediate response service and does not do scheduled “milk route” type removals of pets.  Families can set an appointment with us to meet them at their vet’s office at the time of euthanasia or they can call us when the death occurs and we do everything in our power to respond at that time for pick up.   (There are exceptions based on the current availability or our staff.  So we recommend that an appointment is set whenever possible in advance)

How is my pet transported to your facility?

Heartland Pet Cremation only uses SUV’s to transport all pets and a pet’s stretcher is always gently placed into our vehicles.  We NEVER use a open bed truck or van of any kind where pets will be exposed to adverse conditions.

How and where is my pet kept until they are cremated?

When a pet is brought back to the Heartland Pet Cremation facility, your pet’s carrier is placed in a temperature controlled area for safe keeping until the cremation takes place (which is typically within 24 - 48 hours).

What kind of container are my pet’s cremated remains placed in if I decide not to purchase an urn?
Every family we serve receives a durable basic urn for their pet’s ashes if they do not wish to purchase an urn.

How long does it take from the time my pet is picked up until we can pick up the cremated remains?

Our standard turnaround is 24-48 hrs.  Many times, the cremation takes place the same day your pet is picked up.   So you will not have to wait weeks to get your pet back home.

Can I bring my pet to you and wait while they are cremated?

Yes, you can.  Our crematory is on site and a pet owner can wait in the comfort of our historical facility while the cremation takes place.  Water, coffee, cookies, and free Wi-Fi are available while you wait.

Besides the cremation, what else is provided with your cremation services?
Our basic service includes transportation from your home or vet clinic, a ceramic paw print, fur clipping, private cremation, basic urn, a 30 day tribute (includes pictures and a story) on our website (See “Pet Memorials" ), and helpful grief and memorial information as well.  We also have a wide array of other services and products for families to choose from.
